Why I Designed Swimwear for Comfort-Sensitive Kids

Finding the right swimwear for girls isn’t always simple.

For many families, it’s not just about colour or style. It’s about how something feels to wear. Tags that scratch, seams that rub, or fabric that feels too tight can quickly turn something fun into something uncomfortable.

The Real Reason Behind Lanikai Swim

As a mum, this was something I experienced first-hand.

Two of my children have sensory sensitivities when it comes to clothing.

Getting dressed can sometimes mean adjusting, removing tags, or avoiding certain fabrics altogether. Swimwear, in particular, was always a challenge.

Wet fabric sticking to skin, seams rubbing in the wrong places, and rash shirts that were difficult to remove over long hair.

When I started designing Lanikai Swim, I knew comfort had to be part of the design from the beginning.

Not as an afterthought, but as something built into every piece.

Front Zip Rash Shirts

All rash shirts include a quarter zip at the front, making them much easier to remove when wet.

For girls with long hair, this avoids the discomfort of pulling tight, wet fabric over their head.

Double-Lined Fabric

Our swim sets are double lined, creating a slightly more structured and secure feel.

For some children, this can feel more comfortable and less restrictive than thinner swimwear.

Hidden Seams
